Bob Ogilvie , Councillor
I am a third generation, life-long cottager on Aylen Lake in Dickens Ward. Upon retirement, my wife Margaret and I built a log home (largely with our own hands) on the family property on Aylen. We have been living there full time since moving north from Niagara in 2000. I was educated at Carleton University in Ottawa and completed a Ph.D. at Cambridge, England. For over 30 years I taught psychology and conducted sleep research at Brock University in St. Catharines, while living in the nearby small village of Port Robinson. There, I was a member of the local volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. Margaret and I have three grown children who holiday in South Algonquin whenever they can.
After completing our home, I was on the Board of St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay for two years during which time I served as Chair of the Governance Committee.
A number of local issues are of concern to me, including:
- Obtaining tax relief for all residents of South Algonquin
- Maintaining and improving roads throughout the five wards of our Township
- Improving/ augmenting social services throughout South Algonquin by working on the District of Nipissing Social Service Administration Board {DNSSAB}
- Shrinking the size of the Township’s environmental footprint by improving waste management and developing sustainable recycling programs
To these ends I am serving on the following Township and DNSSAB Committees:
1. Finance Committee
2. Roads Committee
3. Waste Management Committee
4. Fire Committee
DNSSAB (as South Algonquin’s representative on this Nipissing Board)
- Emergency Services Task Force
- Community Housing Task Force
- Ontario Works Task Force
- Children’s Services “Best Start” Committee
